The most important aspect of education that I have learned is that it is not about teachers making a difference; it is about helping students make a difference. Knowing this, I strive to help all students succeed using the most efficient learning strategies possible. Technology is a growing tool in the classroom and I intend to use it as much as possible to engage students and help them learn. I taught 7th grade Language Arts for six years when I lived in Florida. I collaborated on the team that created the Orange County curriculum for teaching writing to the middle grades. This curriculum is still in use today. I worked for the Princeton Review as a tutor doing SAT preparation both privately and in a classroom setting. This was in preparation for both the verbal and math skills sections.
I believe that students of all ages respond to humor, honesty, and respect. Subjects in which that students have difficulty can be made accessible to them by demonstrating to them the humor in learning something hard and the fun of conquering the subject. Learing should be something students enjoy.
