Testing Strategies is one of my top subjects! Elementary students can struggle with standardized math tests because they view it as a math test as opposed to a problem-solving test. In math, one has to know how to apply a skill to come up with a correct answer. For multiple choice test, one can often times find the correct answer by using other types of reasoning outside of mathematics, or at least make choosing the correct answer choice significantly more probable.

When I became a general education teacher, I worked towards making my math lessons activity-based while rotating through small groups of students for personalized lessons.

I believe the greatest thing about knowledge is the ability to share it. I love to learn, but that is only the first step. The true reward comes in being able to impart that knowledge of someone else. However, each person learns differently. Whether in a classroom setting or one-on-one tutoring, it is imperative that the teacher learn how each student learns. This allows them to teach in a manner that produces the greatest results in students. Teaching is very subjective. Each individual learns according to his/her own style. What I find challenging and rewarding is to find that point where it “clicks”. I believe the best way to learn is through experience and discovery. As an example, I can describe the intelligence of an octopus. But until you actually see a video of one opening a jar for a treat, do you truly realize it as a thinking, planning being. A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught 4 and 5th grade in the Texas School Systems for 24 years. I worked as a retired teacher in the Adams Wells Special Services Coop for 3 years (2006-2009)as a teacher's aide with special needs students both in the elementary and high school levels. Those children varied from autistic, cerebal palsy, Attention Deficit Disorders with and without Hyperactivity. I really enjoyed working with these students to help them with their reading, math, and overall achievement.
