In teaching/tutoring, I have an ongoing teacher-student conversation that resembles a programmed unit. I talk mathematics from a tutor's point of view and expect the student to fill in the blanks in a way such that I've set him/her up. What it does is keep the student's attention since they've to answer my questions and "fill in my blanks". I love tutoring students of all ability levels as I show them the light at the end of the tunnel and that light eventually lights up their eyes and their faces! This helps the student to feel comfortable so they can ask questions, even those they may feel to be stupid.
