A Little Bit About Me...

As an adult I realized that my true calling was teaching, and I advanced my education to become an educator. I am a third generation teacher and have a passion to help young students see their potential and achieve their dreams. Over the last eleven year I have spent 10 years in the classroom teaching eighth grade Language Arts, tenth grade through senior English. I have also taught World Literature, Speech I, Speech II, Drama, Debate, Group Discussion, and Speech/Composition. In the past year I have tutored students and worked as an ISTEP+ proctor.
My teaching style is a delicate balance of content knowledge, compassion, and flexibility. Obviously, an effective teacher should have a great understand of his or her content area, but knowing how to teach and share that knowledge is the key to an outstanding teacher. Teaching is very subjective. Each individual learns according to his/her own style. What I find challenging and rewarding is to find that point where it “clicks”. I believe the best way to learn is through experience and discovery. As an example, I can describe the intelligence of an octopus. But until you actually see a video of one opening a jar for a treat, do you truly realize it as a thinking, planning being. I feel that teaching an individual how to use available resources is just as important as the actual subject. Enabling a student to go out and discover the wonders around him/her through research and education is a wonderful thing indeed.
