My comments on tutoring Literature : My university education heavily emphasized reading and analyzing literature. As a part of my classwork I read European and American literature from Beowulf to Brontë to Joyce to Woolf; Postcolonial literature, including Salman Rushdie and Arundhati Roy; and a wide variety of literary criticism. I have given college lectures on a number of novels and poems, namely Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms, Brontë's Jane Eyre, and T.S. Eliot's Wasteland. In my tutoring, I analyze books such as To Kill a Mockingbird and 1984 with my students.

I earned my BA in English in 2010 and have been teaching and tutoring high school and college students ever since, both in the classroom and as a private tutor. My years of experience have helped me understand not only what is expected of students but how to best teach those skills. My expertise includes grammar, AP classes, creative and academic writing, in-depth text analysis, and vocabulary development. My favorite thing to teach is grammar because once my students learn how sentences function, they can finally have fun writing and editing their own work! Recent Graduate Looking To Help

I am a recent graduate of Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania (May 2011). I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in creative writing. I also have a minor in photography. During my time at Mercyhurst College, I worked as a writing tutor in the school’s writing center. When students entered the center, it was my job to immediately make them feel comfortable by greeting them with a friendly smile and asking what I could help them with. I love teaching and find that I, as well as my students, learn by teaching and interactively asking questions and seeking answers together. Although, I have never been in charge of my own class room I consider my teaching style energetic. I love working with students of all ages and find that teaching methods and styles tend to adapt to those individual students. I think it is important to be encouraging and patient with all students. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always been interested and active in the education field. I enjoy working individually with students, more so than in a classroom setting. I received a Master's degree in Creative Writing and a Bachelor's in English for Secondary Education, with minors in French and Creative Writing. I have been teaching Composition at a Community College and have tutored students for many years, whether in English, basic French or even math (up to and including Algebra).
I enjoy working one on one with students because it is allows me to give more in depth and detailed instruction to the student based on his or her learning style.
