My teaching style is mainly dependant on the person that I am tutoring. If a student needs to take a slower process to learn than I am adaptable to that. The same is true for someone who has a little faster pace. I am flexible.
I have experience with teaching adults how to read at my local literacy organization. Also, I have tutored children with Reading and Math. I was a substitute teacher for students from Pre Kindergarten through High School with different subjects and disciplines. I can freely tutor others because of the experiences that I have had while earning my degrees. Helping others learn is a passion of mine.

University professor with years of tutorong experience.

I have taught and tutored since I was sixteen. I currently teach for USC, a few online universities, Syl. Learning Center, and am a Professional Writing Tutor. I teach all grades and university levels, but my specialties are AP Courses and university courses. I have taught everything from 4 yr olds phonics to College level writing and literature to basic maths and sciences to Calculus and Trig.
I try to me more personable than most instructors. Many students simply need another approach to a subject to understand the material. I actively find that perfect approach for an individual student.

A Little Bit About Me...

My passion for education drives me to a place, where I desire to teach children the joy in reading. In the past I developed a program to teach reading and mathe through culinary arts. Through research I have been able to develop extensive grammatical skills. I believe that in order to bring about change, you have to become the change. Children are like a garden of flowers who need only to be natured and love. In that type of enviroment any child can learn.
Education is my passion an on this road of life I am always striving to learn new things. Working with children gives me an opportunity to impart knowledge through their surroundings. My style of teaching is both hands on and hands off, I like to give the child an opportunity to try it on their own and make suggestions. I believe that their voice is also important.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching methods are rather basic. I respect the student, and I encourage the student. I have found that reward goes much farther than ridicule or punishment when motivating a student to believe in themselves, and thus excel. I also teach the importance of information. What I mean by that, is that I teach the student why the information they are learning is relevant to the real world, I don't teach to a test. By employing these methods over the past several years, I have enjoyed a great deal of success with my students, and they have excelled beyond expectations.
I graduated from the College of Charleston with a degree in Sociology. Almost immediately I went to work in the behavioral health field. While there, I found an ability to connect with, and build a rapport with the residents at the facility. After a year, I took a position as a Clinical Counselor at the Medical Universi ... read more

Through my experience with the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, I was expected to demonstrate a high level of expertise in my chosen field. As a writing emphasis major, I chose writing classes that focused on the principles of teaching writing and reading in a classroom setting. I also took several classes that focused on the student writer of today, and ways in which to-as an instructor-encourage students to want to read and write. All of these classes and experiences will help me as I hope to further my education and pursue a master's degree in teaching.
One of the most rewarding things about teaching is seeing the progress a student makes, whether it be quick or slow, and one of the great things about reading and writing is that it is a skill that can only be improved upon. Reading and writing is not something that is forgotten over the summer, and once something clicks with ... read more

The ability to demonstrate interpersonal skills and team leadership: I meet this qualification in such that it was demonstrated while working with the Los Angeles County Probationary Department as well as working with the youth in my church. I would counsel approximately two students per week and meet with about twenty to thirty on a Thursday evening on a volunteer basis for the Los Angeles County Probation Department. I also had an assistance to work with me and we would work together as a team to help develop these young people lives. Of course, this consisted of me working beyond my normal work hours just to be able to reach that student who felt they were completely a “nobody”, for it was more important to meet the student need rather than my own personal need of just wanting to go home. The act of being able to speak one encouraging word to the student was more important to me. ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

By connecting with learners, I hope to understand and to be understood. To connect I must always be aware of my learners needs and to use the idiom “wavelength”. I will treat learners as individuals. Each learner is a unique person. I will provide for differentiated learning styles. I acknowledge that there are multiple learning styles and I will provide for all learning styles without partiality towards my own learning style. Rather than simply informing of skill or information through lecture, I will find and develop ways to facilitate or “make easy” the learning process. I will promote life-long learning. I will help learners to continue learning for a lifetime.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent CofC graduate attaining my Bachelors of Science degree in Biology, I have a vast knowledge of Biology and Chemistry courses. I also attained minors in Chemistry and Psychology. In high school I completed Advanced Placement (AP) courses in Biology, English, and Calculus and placed out of 21 college credit hours. With this experience, I gained knowledge about the arrangment and expectations of these classes and examinations. During High School, I tutored Middle School aged children in all subjects in an after-school program. Currently, I work as a Patient Care Technician at the MUSC's Children's Hospital. This position has allowed me to gain experience in communicating effectively and purposefully with children of all ages.

I love to be in the classroom. I love the process of learning. It is important to understand that children learn at different paces and in different ways. It is important for us as instructors to recognize this dynamic. I particularly believe that we have a responsibility to embrace this dynamic and encourage and challenge our students to be their best. I believe in using all of the resources available to the teacher to include theaters, museums and libraries. There are teachable moments everywhere. My job is to find and make use of them.
The importance of education has always been clear to me. I was born into a middle class family without a lot of resources. It became obvious to me that if I desired to pursue higher education I would have to qualify for scholarships and grants. I earned a bachelor degree in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Radio and Television. I ... read more

Since I acquired language using primarily the conversational method, that is my basic approach to teaching. Of course there are the basics of grammar and syntax, style and such, all of which are necessary, but if you cannot open your mouth and produce an intelligible phrase, then what good is it to acquire another language? I approach this method through dialogue with my pupil - the Aristotelian method, if you will. I ask the questions, they provide the responses and I correct them on the points of grammar that are applicable to the extent situation. This, I believe, frames the lesson in a practical application, as opposed to mere rote memorization. It's the method that worked for me, so I believe in it and I use it.
