Hidden Talents Tutoring

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire with a degree in computer science, I started tutoring in the Academic Skills Center at UWEC and discovered this was a hidden talent. My instinctive use of the Socratic method earned praise from the director right away. While working at UWEC, I gained experience with a variety of learning and developmental disabilities, including Asperger's syndrome, visual impairment, brain damage, and dyscalculia. I am a very adaptable teacher--I can easily pick up on a student's needs and abilities, and work to their strengths in that way. During my undergrad studies at UWRF, I was sponsored to become a tutor in the Writing Center on campus. There was a prerequisite practicum, but it was very hands-on learning. As cliché as this sounds - my favorite part of teaching is the satisfaction of knowing I made a difference. A Little Bit About Me...

I find it thoroughly enjoyable to work with children. My time teaching in Peru has definitely confirmed that for me! I am patient, responsible, and easy going. I think that knowledge can be gained in many ways, and it doesn't have to just be from a book or someone lecturing to you.
