Genetics is one of my top subjects! I have been a genetics counselor for 13 years. Masters degree in genetic counseling from Arcadia University. I am also certified as a genetic counselor. Worked as a genetic counselor in a prenatal setting, metabolics, newborn screening, and molecular genetics. My expertise is in metabolic genetics but all human genetics is in my range of experience. I can also assist with the certification exam for genetic counseling.

I have been a genetic counselor for 13 years from an accredited college in Pennsylvania. First, I worked as a prenatal counselor but switched to newborn screening and metabolic genetics for the majority of my career. I earned certification as a genetic counselor in 2009. I have taught high school students the basics of genetics in a classroom as well as taught masters degree students.
I believe students learn in different ways so I will make sure to provide different formats to allow the student to achieve learning success. There will be written work, visual presentations by myself as well as having the student present what they have learn to demonstrate comprehension. If there are any questions, please ask!

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that learning is best achieved in a comfortable, nothreatening enviroment. People learn best when they understand the importance of the material being taught, something I strive to convey to my students. While I can easily teach a didactic lecturing style, I feel that an interactive approach often better meets the needs of the students. Ultimately, education is a reflection of the students success and the teacher is merely a means to that end.
My experience in teaching is broad and varied. I have taught medical students, other physicians, technologists, as well as teaching at military facilities. In additiom, I have two school age children myself and I believe that I am their primary teacher. This varied teaching experience allows me to tailor my teaching methods to the students and has allowed me to gain a great fund of knowledge.

A Little Bit About Me...

My style of teaching is simple - make the information easy to understand. I believe that I possess a unique ability to modify complex scientific material into a more straightforward idea. The use of analogies is one of the best ways that I do this. As a person I am patient and enjoy seeing the look of “aha! I get it!” in the learners eyes. I hope that my passion for the study of biology and science as a whole will spread to my students.
There are 2 things that I’ve known since I was a child, I am fascinated by the study of biological mechanisms and I enjoy helping others. As an undergraduate at Allegheny College, I excelled in the biological sciences and was selected to be a teaching assistant for the Cellular Biology & Molecular Biology courses. Last spring I was asked to guest lecture at Central Catholic High School where I introduced the students to basic cancer biology. Mo ... read more
