A Little Bit About Me...

I know what it takes to teach and learn a foreign language because I am fluent in French. I was inspired by watching the great teachers that I had in high school and college. I have taught English as a second language, so I have classroom experience to add to my general knowledge of the language and culture.
I believe in letting the child set the pace when it comes to private tutoring. I would listen to child to learn what truly interests them and inspires them. I would then use this is my lessons so they enjoy the learning process. Children enjoy learning anything when it is taught in the appropriate way. I believe that all children can learn and all children are capable of learning. But, all students learn differently, so, I feel that by changing lessons and incorporating different things into each one to accomodate most, or all, students is necessary. When children are able to learn and gain experiences on their own, with little or no teacher intervention, they learn at their best. By doing fun activities, children are able to gain and retain knowledge better. I have been teaching for ten years. I am Literacy First trained and I am on the math vertical team which deal with implemtations of different math concepts. I have been very successful with test score for the end of grade. I have worked as a tutor for the last three years.
My teaching style is one of lecture and classroom discussion with teacher and peers. I believe in letting children discover and learn a concept on thier own. After the children have dicscovered the concept and have small understanding of that concept, I will then come in with the lecture and note taking to clarify any misconceptions. I believe in small group work with the teacher and with classroom peers.
