I teach to the student's strengths and continually tailor my instruction to my observations and assessments of the student's learning preferences and progress. I have 12 years of K-12 experience as a special education teacher, and nine years experience as a tutor. I have tutored, math, reading, phonics, social studies, study skills, science, test preparation, composition, and spelling. I enjoy helping people learn English. Have a lot of understanding and compassion of what it means to learn a foreign language, as I have learned two. I have also lived as an expatriate in a foreign country, so I understand a lot of what the expatriate has to go through in a new land. I am used to teaching all types of learners, from slow to fast, and am able to adjust. During the past 5 years I have been a substitute teacher for Kentwood Public Schools and Excel Charter School in both elementary and high school classes. This experience has given me insight into what I feel is necessary for students to prepare for the future i.e college, skilled labor, technology etc. I have administered tests to evaluate pupil progress and issue reports to parents to discuss student progress and any problems that may exist.

As a graduate of a Big Ten school, and a current master’s level student, I have had many focuses in school that I can teach in the tutoring setting. As a substitute teacher for the past three years, I have experiencing teaching nearly every academic subject. I am a published playwright and have sold over fifteen short scripts for religious one-acts to the Nashville-based Belden Street Music Company. My writing and composition skills are particularly strong, my understanding of grammar is excellent and I have worked extensively in high school English/writing classes.
