I have a collaborative style of teaching. My ultimate goal is to get students to think, regardless of their age. With younger students, I tend to be much more directive so that we accomplish intended learning. With middle and high school students, I ask "Why" and "How do you know" quite often so that they learn to provide evidence for their thinking. Getting the RIGHT answer isn't the goal -- understanding and developing critical thinking processes are much more valuable!

I have taught private lessons for a year, while also teaching ballet, modern, and jazz in studios. I also led dance class at a charter school for a year twice a week. During my private lessons I got to work one on one with individuals and truly see dramatic improvement. I strive to see my students grow and cultivate their own creativity in movement.

I have a very hands-on approach, using real life examples that children will understand. For example, if there's a math problem involving subtraction, I would use Cheerios cereal or coins. I would say something like "Let's say I gave you 20 Cheerios and took away 5 of them, how may Cheerios would you have left?" I believe that we all learn in different ways and it just takes patience and observation to understand the ways in which each child learns. I know that children can reach their full potential if they are given the chance to prove themselves and if they are surrounded by people who believe in them.
