If I am tutoring a young person I contact the teacher so that I can find out what areas the student needs review in. Many times the teacher will give me the resources and materials to use. Also, I like to use the guide books for each grade that are sold in stationary areas of most stores. For tutoring in reading I've found the Leapfrog Reading Program is very helpful. I like to meet my students at the library so that I can use the resources found in the library, including the computer. I have spent most of my career in helping students with learning challenges and other special needs. My strongest asset is that I am very good at teaching students on a one-to-one basis. I have tutored a lot of students who are considered to be slow learners or who have some kind of learning disability. When I first started in the education field, I helped to transition students from being in the least restrictive environment to going to a regular classroom.
