A Little Bit About Me...

I currently work in a PreK-12 School setting as a Certified School Library Media Specialist. I am responsible for teaching Prek-6th grade library/research lessons. When I am not teaching I am monitoring 7-12 students who are utilizing the library media cnter. I manage two library spaces, am the primary purchaser for books, technologies, and databases, and work closely with the administration team to meet and exceed curricular goals. Previously I worked in a K-6 setting with similar responsibilities. While working with on my Masters degree I substitute taught in several of the area school districts. As a mother of three children as well as a graduate of the New York State University school system, I am an avid reader and a natural proof reader. I have earned a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature and have attended classes in Elementary Education toward a Master's Degree. I like children to learn through exploring. This is not to say that I do not teach, but I plan lessons in a way that allows students to learn at their own pace. I feel like if I can put together a lesson that gives children a motivation to learn, they will learn on a deeper level than if I am merely telling them information. With my middle school math students whom I tutored, this meant that we learned about fractions through art. It was not enough to explain to them how fractions worked, I realized that they needed to experience fractions. We spent the same amount of time as the regular class did on fractions, but my students were able to better explain their work.
