A Little Bit About Me...

Recently moved from Ohio to Tennessee. For the past ten years I have taught mild to intense special needs students in a public school in grades 5-9. Three years prior to that I taught children with Severe learning disabilities in grades 4-6. Before that I taught children with severe emotional/behavioral disorders for eight years in grades K-3. I also tutored part time with children of all ages and ability ranges including gifted.

I like to listen to students and teaching style is by hands on experience for students. Showing and explaining how they can achieve the skill at hand is successful. Often by teaching computer skills or program to help with the subject at hand.
I have worked with children in a pre-school or subing element for years, as well as an office. I am 2 classes away from my Assoc of E.Edu at the University of Phoenix. I plan to continue with my B.S. Being envolved as a sub-teacher has allowed me to work with children of differnt ages to understand what they are learning,and the differnt styles that may help with that age group.

I graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Math & Science. As a student I worked in the classroom for 3 semesters doing various jobs. I enjoy teaching and working with elementary aged children. I love those moments when, after much effort, the light of understanding dawns in a student's eyes. My beliefs are that all children can learn, however, they must learn at their own pace and in their own way. This may mean being extremely patient and empathetic, not sympathetic, to their needs and using their strengths to build confidence while using their weaknesses to set goals. Blooms taxonomy is essential to use for setting standards and assessment of student learning. A Little Bit About Me...

I taught for the public school system in Memphis, TN for 17 years with 15 of those years in the same school. I have taught kindergarten, first, second, and third grade and for 3 years I taught a second/third split class of exceptional students. I quit teaching for a short period because I adopted 2 children overseas. However, I worked part-time as a computer instructor for preschoolers for about 2 years.
