I have a deep passion for learning, and it's always my goal not only to help students learn skills but to find their inner motivation too. I currently work as a substitute teacher, and I appreciate the chance I have to see the best of what teachers and paraprofessionals are using in the classroom and how they help their students. I have much experience students of all ages with their homework and projects as a nanny, babysitter, and older sister of four. I was also a certified therapeutic riding instructor, so I taught individuals with disabilities to ride horses. I was a top student myself, and I have a B.A. in English with a minor in history. Bringing Out The Potential In Students...

My method of tutoring is to work with students where they are and add to their skills, to accomplish the final outcome, preferably an "A" or "B." Some students are visual learners and some are informational learners, or some students combine the two. The potential I see in students is what I try to bring out and have them realize they are capable of going a step further, to reach their goal. The importance of education and the students' continuance of same cannot be stressed enough.
I started out tutoring elementary students in basic math and English grammar while I attended college part time in the 1980's. I continued tutoring young students and adults in the 1990's, tutoring Basic Math, Basic and Intermediate Algebra, Basic Geometry, English Composition, Speech, Study Skills and the Sciences. In addition, tips were given to enhance test-taking skills in hard-to-Ace subjects ... read more

Teaching with Passion!

I believe that every individual has gifts, talents, and learning styles unique to them, so I challenge and motivate my students to meet their highest potential as independent thinkers. I have found this to be the most effective method for students in learning the subject best, being engaged in sessions, and gaining the confidence to solve tough problems and tackle challenging assignments on their own. My Psychology background has been beneficial when proactively working with a variety of students for different subject areas. Generally, students take in and process information in different ways, that is why I strive to really get to know every students unique learning style and passions, and tailor my approach to meet their learning needs and goals. My passion and value for education is evident in my teaching style and in my work as a tutor. Passions often go unnoticed in the classroom, s ... read more

My personality lends itself nicely to the art of teaching, both adults and children. Thankfully, my educational and professional background supports my ability to tutor in all areas of elementary education, particularly Language Arts. As a young student, I was terrified of mathematics. I carry with me the humility I felt at that time, being frustrated and falling behind, when I approach each individual child and their challenge. From my experience I know how helpful tutoring can be and I take great pride in being able to help a child overcome an educational obstacle. Lastly, I always make sure the child I’m helping knows I believe in them. They CAN do it, and I’m here to help.

As a graduate student from Central Michigan University I have learned several different methods to use when tutor students. Knowing that all students do not learn the same way or at the same speed I use several different programs/methods when tutoring a student. With younger studengts I use a combination of work books and computer lessons along with small homework assignments. With older students I use programs such as writing small reports at first while slowly building them up to larger yet easy to grasp essays. I work with the students on topics that they are interested in to try to make their tutoring as enjoyable as an enjoyable experience as possible.
My passion is working with students and seeing that my teaching styles are getting the students motivated and excited about their progress. As stated above I use different teaching styles with each student and their need. I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have over 10 years teaching at the college level. Some of that experience is face-to-face and most is online. I am a strong advocate for education. I also have two children of my own who I work with on a daily basis. Both of my children excel in school and I believe it is because of the one-on-one work we do at home.
I am a believer in life-long learning. I believe that as a teacher it is our responsiblity to find the technique that matches with the child in developing their ability to learn. I have children of my own and I love to watch as they learn new concepts and grasp ideas. I believe it is a partnership between children, teacher and parents to create the learning environment and support.

Many people have different teaching skills and techniques. I do not believe any technique to educate a child is better than any other technique. Each child learns differently. Understanding the fact that children learn differently is crucial. The teacher must be able to adapt to the child's learning style. I believe I have the ability to use an array of teaching styles to help children. I would enjoy the opportunity to help children learn.
As a student at the University of Detroit Mercy, I worked as a tutor for two years. I helped other students struggling in mathematics and biology classes. Also, my senior year in college I worked as a Teaching Assistant for a Microbiolgy lab. In addition, I did student teaching for a Catholic Middle School.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have learned people learn different ways. They learn by hearing or seeing and sometimes both. I like to talk and as write materials down and have pass outs. I feel this is the best method.Tutors help other students with their course work. Tutors don't do homework for other students; they help the other students figure out how to do it. Tutors don't teach a course; they help other students figure out parts of the course that they haven't quite understood yet; they show other students how to study for a particular subject.
