High school was a blast, and I loved every moment!! I was the history buff, drama geek, grammar police and still am to this day. I did High School plays every year in High School, scored perfect on the English portion of my ACT, was a teachers aide for my History and English teacher, wrote for the school paper, studied Journalism, Drama, English and History as hobbies in High School as well as Photography and the Arts.
Fun and intense. I refuse to be drab or boring. Associate learning with life, colors, songs, music, memories, movies and media. Pete and Repeat were sitting on a fence. Pete fell off. Who was left? I believe in starting where someone is. I spend the first meeting getting to know the student, what he or she doesn't know, and what they need to know to be successful. I believe everyone is an individual and must be taught with this in mind. Each person is their own classroom, bringing with them their unique experiences to the learning situation. I believe that each student has their own style of learning and soak up information differently then other students. I myself like to learn visually and hands on. I have tried many styles of learning to see what works for me. I record lectures, take my own notes, like to question myself while I'm studying for a test. I think connecting something to something you already know will help you retain that new information very well. It makes me feel great when I know I have taught someone well and that they actual understand the information and are not just regurgitating what I am telling them.
