Having graduated from a Masters in the Arts of Teaching (Adolescent Science - Physics) program in the summer of 2009, I am not only well versed in the structure of New York State Regents Exams but am also up to date with many modern teaching and assessment techniques. I have had two student teaching placements, a year and a half of substitute teaching, and numerous experiences tutoring math and science to individuals and groups both professionally and as a volunteer since 2003. Coming from a large family and having a large family myself, I have always been around children of all ages and enjoyed working with kids to develop themselves and prepare them for a meaningful place in our society. I am very patient with children and will use different approaches to teach. I try very hard to install a love of learning and work hard to encourage a curiousity of any subject that interests them. A Little Bit About Me...

My approach to teaching students mathematics is to first ensure they understand the basics. In my experience, students typically have trouble learning new material because they have not mastered the previous material, which is typically a prerequisite to understanding the new material. I believe with enough time spent on the basics, any student can learn more advanced mathematical concepts. Once I feel their understanding of the previous material is strong, I walk them through example problems and then have them solve increasingly difficult problems on their own. However, I am very flexible with my teaching methods; if they have trouble with this model, I am willing to try different things to ensure they are learning.
