For as long as I can remember, I have been a natural teacher. My children say that I can never take them on an outing without making a "school" trip out of it. I love learning, and desire to share that excitement with others, to see them become life-long learners. I believe that all children can learn, although in different ways. Individualized learning and small group learning is what I enjoy most. I'm patient and work well with children. I'm good at seeing where a student's need is, and then adapting the teaching level and style to match so that he/she can achieve, and be encouraged to move forward. After receiving a degree in Sociology from a New York State University, I went on to earn a provisional teaching certificate in Biology. I have twenty-one graduate hours in Reading and eleven graduate hours in Early Childhood Education. My previous work experience had me working with families where one adult was in need of a GED. I have tutored students from elementary through high school in every subject (except Foreign Languages) for over ten years. I have also worked with entering BOCES LPN students on math review and raised many of their entry level grades twenty points. I am certified in both elementary and special education through SUNY Geneseo. I have been substitute teaching for the past three years while completing my Masters Degree through Western Governors University. I have tutored three students in reading, writing and mathematics. All three students had learning disabilities and all made excellent progress while working with me. Last summer I worked for a group daycare and initiated group tutoring sessions for all students who would be going to school in the fall. I worked with kindergarten, first and second graders and differentiated instruction for the students to help prepare them for the coming year.
