I like teaching. I like teaching individuals. I enjoy the challenge of adapting my style and my information to the unique set of skills and experiences that each individual brings along with them. No two people are alike. So I try not to teach each student as if she is just like the last guy. What is called the "Affective Filter" is what I deal with most: that is the part of each student that is unwilling to try. Many people are uncomfortable with anything having to do with Math, for instance. So, I try to make the session as comfortable as possible. I incorporate practical examples in teaching to give students in depth knowledge in a practical sense. I gather my examples from my varied career experiences from the Military, Aircraft, Engineering, Manufacturing/Maintenance & Computer fields. I sporadically tutors students in my specialty.
I use the Active Participation strategy because it engages the learner not only in understanding but in contributing as well.
