I have strong curriculum knowledge, am caring and patient, and love working with students.
I like to motivate my students by providing background knowledge and examples of application in the world outside of textbooks. A Little Bit About Me...

I decided at the age of 38 to attend college and earn my BA of Education degree. I have worked with and coached young people most of my life on a volunteer basis. Teaching has always been one of my passions. I have worked with students with learning disabilities in my eleven years of teaching. I have taught all the core subjects from grades 3-12. My favorite subject to teach/tutor is math. I enjoy seeing my students progress in their learning.
I like to challenge my students to reach their potential. I realize there is a fine line between challenging and frustrating my students. I like for my students to figure out math problems on their own as much as possible. My teaching style is to model new material, do guided practice, and independent practice. Hopefully by the time they finish this process they have mastered the particular lesson.

In my doctoral program, I am specializing in working with students with special needs and disabilities. I have learned and have experience implementing strategies and techniques to enable children to learn. I am very patient, easy going, and considerate, and my goal is to always provide children with the best education possible.
I first began my love of teaching and tutoring children when I was a senior in high school. A Little Bit About Me...

1) My experience has given me the opportunity to work with a wide range of 11-21 year old students, who have an equally wide range of educational abilities. I worked one-on-one with students with special needs and helped educate students in regular education classrooms. Working with these students has allowed me to develop and adjust my teaching style to meet the needs of the students. For example, if a student was a visual learner, I utilized illustrations and created visuals to aid in their comprehension of the subject. If a student was a tactile learner, I provided creative and fun ways to make physical examples that would aid in their learning.
I graduated with a BA in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in May 2007. I worked at Savanna Oaks Middle School in Verona, WI as an Educational Assistant specializing in Special Education for one year. I created lesson ... read more

I am a graduate of the University of Florida and have been fortunate enough to excel in school throughout my life. I started tutoring in middle school and continued throughout my college career. I earned my bachelors degree in Accounting so I would like to believe my education is well-rounded. My favorite/strongest subject is math but am versatile in all subject areas. I relate well with children as I have two younger siblings (high school and middle school) that I often tutor as well.
I tend to use a hands on approach to teaching. I put learning in the perspective of the students life into an experience that he/she can relate to. I asses the level of clarity needed based on the students response and actions. I like to teach visually which also helps for memorization and repetition. I take as many breaks as necessary for the student so that they do not get frustrated or dis ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I really like working with children from low income families. I think each child has a different interest and way of learning. I try to discover these learning styles before I begin the tutoring process. I try to allow them to be comfortable and having fun during our sessions. Most of the time I do a lot of question/conversation responses to allow them to find the answer for themselves. I like a problem based learning style, even for the youngest of children. I not only want to teach them how to properly concur their learning material but how to find the information they need if they do not know the answer. Additionally, I want them to have fun and enjoy quality time with a supportive mentor and gain an enthusiasm for school.

I tutored children from the neighborhood so often, I decided to get paid for it. I received my Bachelor degree in Anthropology and my "lifetime" teaching credential (any self contained) from California. When I retired, I discovered I still wanted to teach. I was in Salt LakeCity, UT and taught Kindergarten for 6 years. Upon hearing that Florida needed teachers, I sold out and moved to Florida in time to find a glutted field. I still know that I will only be happy if I am doing what I do best: teaching the youth of today for the challenges of tomorrow. I am continuously educating myself and hope to spend the rest of my life in school.
I like to learn where the student is (not the age/grade, etc) and build from there. Success for the student is very important because without confidence, we are all lost. I like to be organized with certain levels to be attained. Achieving th ... read more

A better future requires a better education now, and how we pursue it is vital. Education empowers a mind, attitude empowers a lifestyle.

I enjoy learning and I strive to teach so that my students enjoy learning as well. I choose to cater my instruction to my individual students so that I can interest them, connect to them, and meet the overall needs of the student. I pride myself on my creativity and I work hard to come up with unique ways to teach skills that have become frustrating and often boring to students because I understand that not all students learn in the same fashion. I know the importance of instilling the knowledge of basic skills into my students but I also recognize that learning needs to be interesting and relatable in order to comprehend.
