Experienced math tutor.

I have been tutoring at Forsyth Technical Community College since September 2008. I work on average, over the 5 years, 15 hours a week, but now working 21 hours a week since I am now out of school. I have done private tutoring for about 3 years now, either with people from met from school or from tutoring. I got a BS in both Mathematics and Computer Science in May of 2013. Math and computers have always been my strength, and when getting my degree, I would always help my friends in their classes.
It depends on the student and what they are doing. If all they need is practice, then I will let the student do all of the work, interjecting only to give advice or to correct a mistake if the student does not catch it themselves. After graduating from an Ivy League college, I obtained my Master's Degree in Computer Science while working as a professional software developer. I also taught AP Computer Science for 2 years at an elite private school. I am an excellent standardized test taker (SAT, ACT, Praxis) and can share many test taking tips and strategies that have helped students improve their scores. Children have many different learning styles, and as an educator it is my job to discern which approach works best for each individual. In teaching math, I believe that all children learn best with a hands-on approach. Providing real-world examples and manipulatives that children can pick up, touch, and move around should be used at all levels – from kindergarten through high school.
