I graduated with a B.S. degree in early childhood education from Iowa State University in 2004. As a result, I have had the chance to substitute teach and tutor in Iowa and California. While substitute teaching, I had the opportunity to work in various classrooms at all age levels and subjects. While tutoring, I worked with students grades K-6 in all subject areas one-on-one, and in small group settings. Both endeavors allowed me to enforce my passion for teaching, demonstrate patience, share and take-in knowledge, and watch children succeed and grow as a result of hard work. While I earned my bachelor's degree in communication from Loyola, I also worked as an Academic coach for high school students. I spent a year tutoring students for an academic competition that tested all skill areas including, writing, math, history and science. I spent the summer of 2006 working closely with people with disabilities. I perfected my teaching skills through hands-on learning/teaching techniques. I believe in setting goals and working to ensure they are accomplished. In my opinion, learning should never feel like a boring chore. The student should be working hard, but enjoying him or herself in the process, and this is when the most efficient and effective learning occurs.
