My comments on tutoring Poetry : I won the Outstanding Poetry award in my Highschool in 2008, and later won the Creative Writing: Poetry award at Rochester institute of technology in 2013. I took several creative writing classes while obtaining my BS, including Poetry Workshop classes.

I have always had a passion for learning. Part of my passion includes helping others learn, grow, and succeed. As an undergraduate student, I volunteered as a Peer Mentor in order to help new students become accustomed to their classes. Old Soldier who likes teaching English

I told my students there was no "wrong" way to present class material. They were told they would be videotaped & critiqued by their class members..BUT their presentation would be on their military specialty (eg. a Motor Pool SGT would do a class on vehicle maintenance)..thereby increasing the "comfort level" of the presenter & enhancing the knowledge of the class. The students would be taught to affirm each other & give each other positive "feed-back".
I taught for 9 yrs at the 1159 US Army Reserve Forces School. I helped soldiers get promoted to SSG, SFC, & MSG by providing them with skills in writing correspondence, public speaking, lesson planning & class preparation for delivery in both a classroom & tactical (field) environment. I also provided remedial training for soldiers needing additional work in writing,lesson planning & class presentation.

In 2008, I earned a BS degree in English, with a concentration in creative writing. In the same year, I completed the New York State teaching program and earned my certification for grades 1-6. I am currently completing my MA degree in American history, and will graduate in May of this year.
