Since graduating from college, I have been instructing professionals and employees in safety behavior and safety management processes. I have learned extensive grammatical skills in the military, during my assignment as an inspector on the Inspector General (IG) team. I performed proof reading and report writing for two years. My parents were elementary and algebra teachers. There were numerous occasions I assisted them with correcting tests during my high school years. Finding a way to explain a concept in terms each individual can understand is the challenge. When students have difficulty in a class, it is often because the textbook doesn't speak to them and the teacher doesn't have time to explain it individually to each and every student. By far, the biggest issue I have found with students with difficulty learning mathematics or the sciences is that there is a lack of motivation to learn, primarily because they do not understand the implications of the knowledge in front of them. Because I have studied physics, mathematics, and completed the pre-medicine curriculum at my university, I am brimming with knowledge of these applications. Once my students have gained an understand of all the cool stuff we can do with knowledge in these avenues, they tend to absorb concepts much more readily. I returned to the University of Northern Iowa to start working toward a Master Degree in Accounting so I might be able to teach again. I enjoyed teaching at the college level since you had few people that were not interested in learning.
I taught three years in a Public School system and thirteen years at Hamilton Business College at Mason City, Iowa. I taught all phases of accounting while at Hamilton. After I retired from teaching, I became the accountant for three different firms in Mason City ( an oral surgeon, ready mix company and a road contractor) for eight years.
