I always attempt to explain the beauty of mathematics to my students in hopes that they will develop the same admiration of the logic and order of mathematics and science. My tutoring will generally involve a brief explanation of theory and background, followed by one or two fully worked examples (if applicable). Then exercise problems or homework questions will be worked by the student. I encourage students to memorize the procedure of a solution. However, I always ensure that the student understands why steps are being taken in a given solution, and is not simply blindly following a solution procedure. I taught mathematics and business mathematics for 14 years in California in universities and community colleges. While in California, I also was a substitute teacher from third through twelfth grades. In New Mexico, I have taught mathematics, computer science, and astronomy for six years at two universities, the local community college, and in high school.
