I think learing about your student is most important thing first and then teach them the way they learn quick, such as if they are visual learning or practical learner. that's what i do with my students, simply talk to them and ask what they think is the easy way to learn stuff for them and that's how I try to help them.
I believe that if you teach someone you truly expend your own knowledge simpling helping others. I love to teach people of all ages and i had pretty good experience.
