I am very patient and have worked with children with multiple challenges including ADD/ADHD and autism. |
I prefer to work with elementary children or preschool children. |
I have worked within the Kansas City area as a substitute teacher to Elementary school age children since 2016. Prior I worked in Michigan as a substitute teacher and preschool teacher. I have taught all subject areas according to set curriculum. I would need to know what areas your child is struggling and what they are learning in order to correlate the tutoring with what they are learning in school. |
Children are being taught different ways to do basic math. Adults were taught adding the ones place, tens place, then hundreds place to come up with the right answer. Children are taught number bonds to come with the answer. It takes children an extremely long time to solve basic math problems because the children have to do multiple, unnecessary, and often confusing steps. I prefer to teach children the old-fashioned way of doing math as I believe this way is still best. |
Phonics is critical to excellent reading. Children are being taught minimal phonics and the focus is on sight reading/ whole language. The issue is that children are being taught to remember what words look like rather than knowing how to use sound and rules to reading in order to figure out words. Children are often guessing words wrong because a word looks similar to another word. I will use, "Phonics Pathways" to teach your child phonics. It is sometimes a challenge re-teaching a child to use sounds rather than the whole language method. |
Reading, Spelling, and Phonics all go hand and hand. I use, "Phonics pathways to make sure children have a grasp on phonics rules. |
Vocabulary is built by reading and communicating by conversation. |
I have taken College Algebra, Finance, Accounting, and more as I have a Bachelor's in Business Administration. I, however, have been a preschool teacher and substitute teacher for elementary children, and prefer to work with that age group. |
I have experience working with elementary age children in learning to read using phonics and sight reading. Children are not being taught basic phonics and, therefore, are struggling with reading basic words. I use a phonics curriculum called, "Phonics Pathways". I will analyze your child's knowledge of basic phonics and decide where to start. |
Proficiency in reading helps with comprehension. If one is struggling with sounding out words by the time they get to the end of the sentence they may have forgotten what they read. Proficiency in reading is a great tool for comprehension. |
Reading, Spelling, and Phonics all go together. I have won spelling competitions throughout my schooling. Knowing basic phonics aids in spelling. Also, repetition of reading the word, writing the word, and saying the letters of the word helps in memorizing spelling words. |
