Experience Summary
I am currently a substitute teacher. I have been subbing for two years in Dallas. I work part-time at two school districts, on public and one is private. I have worked with all ages from elementary and middle to high school. I enjoy working children and aspire to be a first grade teacher. I have also worked as a toddler teacher and first grade teacher assistant at licensed facilities. While working in childcare I taught general knowledge such as : the alphabet, counting, reading , and shapes. As a substitute I have worked over 75 assignments. I have worked in various classes English, ESL, History, Elementary , Spanish, and Special Education to name a few. As a substitute I have taught small and large groups. I consider each assignment as an opportunity to obtain more experience in education. All of these experiences have helped me be more organized, professional, and prepared. There were even instances where I was not provided a lesson plan, which is essential to a substitute teacher. The first time this happened I was working at a middle school. I had five classes that day during the first I waited for materials from staff as promised but nothing never came. So I asked the students what were they learning in class? Silence was their response. So found a worksheet on the desk. Then I find the same topic in the book. I gave my next classes a lesson on the following chapter that corresponded to the worksheet. My students did not complain much; a few said they had already done the work. Overall, it was a good day. I was confronted with a problem and I solved it. I wish I could say this was the first and last time this happened, it was not. Whenever I accept an assignment I create a lesson plan based off the subject this ensures my classroom preparation. Just as I prepare my classes I will do the same for those I tutor.
