Experience Summary
I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor's in Fine Arts. I worked for Disney Research for over a year as an artist, and since then have been working as a freelance artist. I specialize in digital illustration, 2D animation and video game graphics. I've been able to help students prepare their portfolios to successfully get admitted into their desired schools. One of my students, who got admitted into LaGuardia High School, contacted me only 1 week before his audition and had no clue how to prepare his portfolio and didn't know the requirements for the audition. I did my research and taught him in that 1 week for no more than 4 hours, and I later found out his audition was a success. I have over 400 hours of art teaching experience, and I'm deeply passionate about helping students achieve their goals.
Teaching Style
I teach online through Skype or Google Hangouts. During drawing lessons, I take screenshots of the student's artwork. If the student is using their webcam while drawing on paper, I have them hold up their drawings to the webcam so that I can take screenshots of their work. As I'm sharing my screen, I digitally draw my demonstrations and mark up student's work so that they can precisely pinpoint where they should revise their drawings. This has been most effective, and students show improvement over the course of each hour they have lessons with me.
I also help students manage their psychology and learn some mindfulness to optimize their performance. Especially when students have tight deadlines to make, they can often be stressed and get performance anxiety. Sometimes parents get very anxious as well, so I often talk to both the student(s) and the parent(s) to keep them focused on their goals. I've been successful at being encouraging and morally supportive to both students and parents. Not only is teaching art itself important to me, helping the student have fun and maintaining good mental health are high priority goals as well.
