Experience Summary
I am a recently graduated college student from Michigan with an intense passion for chess and teaching. In college, I helped run the Michigan State Chess Club first as vice-president and then as president. In 2015 and 2017, I won the Michigan Master/Expert Class Championship for class C and class B, respectively. After college, I was hired as the lead instructor for a local club. Currently, I tutor chess full time, both online and in-person, and many of my students have gone on to become top players.
Teaching Style
When I teach I try to instill a deep love for the subject matter. My philosophy is that a student cannot be forced to learn but must want to learn. I achieve this by individualizing my lessons for each student and their playing style. Everyone learns differently and each lesson reflects this fact.
Before our first lesson, I encourage students to tell me a little about themselves and to also send me some of their games. During our first lesson, I try to establish a baseline of skill and playing style. At the end of our lessons and, only If the student wishes, fun work may be assigned to reinforce concepts learned during the lesson.
My Hobbies
Chess, playing sports (basketball, football), reading, and watching movies.
