Experience Summary

I have a strong passion for working with kids and helping them succeed and progress academically. I stride on giving my students a sense of confidence in and out of the classroom. I have worked with kids out of the classroom as a camp counselor, as well as a home tutor. I worked at a camp for kids ages 5-12 with hearing disabilities, where I created interactive fun learning activities. My philosophy on teaching history is that students learn and absorb the information more when they are taught not just what happened, but why it happened. I find that students don't hold onto information when they are taught to memorize facts. In my experience students are able to perform better when they know the history behind those facts, and how to expand on them . My passion for history allows me to make learning fun for the students. I have experience working in the classroom as a student teacher, which I did while finishing my Masters. I worked with students in seventh, eighth and twelfth grade. I have strong knowledge of the NY State seventh and eighth grade social studies curriculum . While in the classroom I developed interesting lesson plans to meet academic, intellectual and social needs of each student. I am able to create interesting and interactive learning activities that can felicitate student understanding of course material. I met with students one on one after to school in order to help them with any work that they were having trouble with. I found that I was able to make a even greater impact on their learning in a one on one setting. I was able to engage students in learning through the integration of media, projects and group work. I assess student learning when they are able to build their own understanding and explanations on historical situations.
