Experience Summary

Hi, my name is Evelin and I am a native German and trained teacher for German as a foreign language. I was born and raised in East Germany, ion Dresden, where I studied at the local university to become a secondary school teacher for English, German and philosophy. During my studies, I also added the qualification to become a certified teacher for German as a foreign/ second language. Since the beginning of my studies, I worked in various tutoring and teaching institutions to improve my teaching skills. Throughout the years, I have created playful language contact courses for kindergarden children, worked with refugees and foreigners in Germany to improve their everyday communication skills or prepare them for a certain job, helped teenagers to improve their grades in language lessons, taught adults in evening classes English and German as foreign languages and worked in public schools as a regular teacher. Since living here in the US, I have started becoming qualified as an online language teacher, both teaching German and English via Skype or Google Hangouts. I am currently working with multiple professional online teaching companies from all over the world and teach around 30 different students from international backgrounds German. Moreover, I translate texts from English to German and German to English. I am looking to acquire a bigger audience and more individualized teaching agreements.

Teaching Style

I personally consider my teaching style as "holistic" or alternative. My philosophy and experience has shown me that every learner is different and has his/ her individual needs. Some are better at grammar, some are way better at talking, ... My idea is to meet you where you are and guide you from there. In our first lesson, I will try to get to know your personal background, if you have ever learned German before, your motivation and learning preferences. Going from there, I will start with acquiring some first vocab with the help of word cards or little authentic texts (for advanced learners). My goal is to show you that you can learn German too and I will guide you through the process of making your first sentences step by step and repeat certain structures several times to give you more confidence. In future lessons, we will look at back grammar, texts and vocab and give you as much time and repetition as YOU need. I will always modify the lessons for your needs and look for topics you are interested in. Due to my German origin, I will provide you with authentic German (how Germans REALLY speak it) and include lots of cultural knowledge about the German culture, food, stereotypes, ... as well. I use a large variety of resources as my teaching material and offer a fun blend of activities per lesson. The material is always included and I will provide you with the material and links you need. I am very patient, friendly and open-minded. We can arrange lessons short- or long-term due to your individual needs, without a hassle or too much bureaucracy. I would like to get to know you soon and help you to learn German the way you imagine it. You know best, what is good for you and I will listen to your needs.

My Hobbies

Besides going for extended walks with my dog, I love reading and learning about new cultures and hearing about people's backgrounds. I prefer spending time outside exploring the world around me, discussing culture, art, philosophy and food. :)
