After studying Portuguese at my university, I lived and studied in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for nine months, and during this time fell completely in love with the Portuguese language.
Before graduating, I taught Portuguese at Macalester College, teaching grammar lessons as a lab instructor, leading the conversation hours, and doing individual tutoring with my students. I also acted as an informal advisor whose job was to help or advise my students with regards to study, work, or travel in Brazil.
My goal as a teacher/tutor are to relay my love and excitement for Portuguese to my students. I aim to teach Portuguese grammar at a manageable pace, working at a steady but not overwhelming pace. I like to work on pronunciation gradually alongside grammar, as I find that it usually becomes more accessible as knowledge and exposure to Portuguese increases. I incorporate slang and other cultural elements little by little, as I consider them to be important aspects of the language as a whole. |
