Composition |
This is one of my top subjects!
Proficiency: Expert
|
In teaching composition writing students need to understand and demonstrate learned concept on different areas of written expression such as: Informative, Persuasive, Narrative, Creative, or Personal composition.
Elements of ideal composition writing should be reflected on student's written expression work such as:
1. Conventions which include: Grammar, spelling, punctuations, and capitalization.
2. Composition format which includes: indentation, beginning statement, body of text using sensory details (sight, hearing, smell, and feeling) and key details, and concluding or ending statement.
3. A composition should focus on topic of discussion and should not include unrelated facts or opinions.
Students are able to learn written expression skills by implementing effective teaching strategies such as:
1. Modeling how to write a specific composition
2. Providing helpful word list
3. Working together in developing a composition
4. Frequent checking for understanding |
Creative Writing |
Proficiency: Expert
|
I provide students freedom writing to inspire them to develop their own creative written expression. I also provide sample of creative writing, pictures, internet research activity. |
English |
|
I noticed one of the problems encountered by students in English is knowing and correctly using different parts of speech such as nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, etc.
Students also construct run on sentences which are very long sentence that looks like a paragraph. A run on sentence may be corrected by chunking it into two - three sentences thereby making c\constructed sentences clear and accurate. |
Grammar |
Proficiency: Expert
|
Students encounter incorrect grammar usage such as in referring to first, second, and third person, shifting a noun into a pronoun, and use of tenses (future, present, and past).
Another mistake students demonstrate is usage of adverb of time, manner, and place. Use of conjunctions and interjections are difficult for some students. |

Poetry is a very interesting part of literature. It requires the ability to interpret words, group of words, and sentences. some students interpret a poem literally as poems connotes and quotes words that are c\sophisticated and complicated. Students need to learn to identify and distinguish a stanza, rhythm, meter, and timing of a poem. |

Shakespeare |
Proficiency: Experienced
|
Shakespeare's written expressions, poetry, and drama uses eloquent words, old English terms, and very puzzling words that needs analysis of his message.
Students enjoy Shakespeare's works once they acquired the skills in interpreting his message. some of his stories, poems , and drama are focused on horrible thoughts and justice such as "The Raven", "The Death of a Salesman", and "The Merchant of Venice". |
Spelling |
Proficiency: Expert
|
Spelling is a part of Conventions required in writing activity. Some students are confused with irregular words, homonyms, antonyms, and synonyms. |

Beginners (K - 1 graders) in writing should focus on how to print letter and words legibly. They need to practice the use of appropriate strokes, loops, and lines to form upper and lower case letters. Use of lined or ruled papers are ideal in practicing how to print letters because it has blue and red colors with broken lines in between straight lines.
Writing needs the correct usage of Conventions such as Capitalization, Grammar, Spelling, and Punctuations. Students should use the rules in writing such as when to use Capital letters or upper case letters,
Paragraph writing (which composes a composition) should use indentation and spacing. For more information in writing, please go back to area: Composition which states a lot of information on writing. |
