About Me

Experience Summary

I taught lower grades for 33 years in San Jose, CA. I have a master's degree from San Jose State College. I have tutored for many years, have been a substitute teacher in both Camas and Washougal schools, and taught in the Adult Education program at Clark College for 4 years to adults who needed never finished high school and needed to get their GED.

Teaching Style

I am very friendly and try to put my students at ease by reviewing things to see what they already know and making them feel successful right from the start.

My Hobbies

I love gardening and have a beautiful yard. I enjoy tennis and golf but don't play it that much anymore. My wife and I love to play bridge and are in a bridge group.

Other Comments

I am currently tutoring a boy in the 6th grade in math, reading, and writing.

Naming and measuring angles, quadrilaterals, triangles, finding area, Pythagorean theorem, polygons, and more.
Math This is one of my top subjects!
I am especially good at helping kids who are struggling with the basics of math, especially if they are weak on their multiplication facts. That is essential, and I have many strategies and tricks that help a person learn them faster and better. I also am strong in teaching both long and short division. I spend time on decimals with how to change back and forth from decimals to fractions. Then I spend lots of time on fractions, so that later when they go into ratio, proportion, and percent they have no problems.
