About Me

Experience Summary

My experience has taken me across grade levels as well as across the world. In college, I studied educational methods, theories and philosophies as well as human development. During this time, I participated in classroom practicums (aiding with individual/ small group instruction) and then eventually student taught full-time for 1st and 5th grade. Over the summers, I worked abroad in Germany and Italy with children on military bases for a program called Camp Adventure Youth Services. I provided educational and recreational services for children and youth from ages 5-11. During the academic years, I worked at after school programs helping with homework for the Boys and Girls Club based in Corvallis. While earning my Master's in Scotland, I worked for a similar program at a private school called George Heriot's with children and youth from ages 5-11. Once, I returned back to Eugene, I earned a job working for 4J as a licensed guest teacher. This has provided me with the opportunity to work with children from a wide range of backgrounds and ages groups across the district. I have now taught first grade through seniors in highschool. Teaching Style

Howard Gardner's teaching philosophy aligns with my teaching style. He believes there are multiple intelligences. Therefore, some students learn best with movement or art or hands-on activities and some are very logical and so on. As a teacher, I try to incorporate various intelligences into my lessons in order to meet a wide spectrum of educational needs. However, as a tutor, it is important for me to get to know the individual student in order to capitalize on his/her intellectual strengths and improve his/her weaknesses through using activities and methods which correspond.

My Hobbies

When I am not at work; I enjoy writing in my blog, cooking/baking, swimming, travelling, reading and being outside.
