Experience Summary
I was educated at the University of Reading, Berkshire, England. After college I took the TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) in Brighton, East Sussex, England. I was fortunate to teach English to a wide range of students from all over the world, at language schools in Great Britain.
Teaching Style
I worked with students who wanted to learn conversational English. I used newspapers, magazines, BBC radio and books on tape to facilitate understanding of the language. I used specifically designed three dimensional objects to help the students understand language and form sentences; for example, a triangle was a verb, a square was a noun etc. this really helped the students understand sentence structure - they had to place the object on the picture they thought it would match until they had completed their sentence. This way of hands-on learning made a lot of sense to the students made them feel very successful.

Tennis, reading, learning sign language.
Other Comments
I currently work at a local university. My department develops activities for high school students to learn subjects (mostly chemistry, biology and math) through guided inquiry learning. The teacher has the students work in groups, they have to figure out solutions amongst themselves, while being guided by the teacher - rather than only being taught from the whiteboard. I enjoy the work because it's such an interesting pedagogy, where the students feel more involved in the learning process.
