About Me

Experience Summary

I have over 20 yrs of design/development and launch of new products in the telecommunications/RV/ and automotive industries. I have worked from both a Design engineering side (obtaining patents), and from an operations engineering support (sustaining/product) side. I have learned the business from cradle to launch to grave. I have numerous years of experience in process improvements and process developments, including being an expert on change management, risk assessment, deriving the work plan, working with managers to have resources assigned, and driving the project as the program lead reporting to customers. I have led teams on developing new ECO systems and improvements. I also have many years of experience in mentoring and training of younger engineers on the aspects of design/due diligence/accountability and meeting commitments and excelling against all odds. During my tenure as a design development engineer, I was solely responsible for the design of my assigned product lines and the packaging (dunnage) to be utilized on products I launched. During my tenure as a sustaining engineer, I spearheaded the efforts/projects on cost reductions and consolidation of both product and the product dunnage for products in the plant. I worked with suppliers and commercial sales on establishing plans/projects to phase out programs/products near their “end of life” cycle in ramping down product and dunnage designs, and commonizing these with new programs being launched. I supported the design group and the product launch team (Program Managers/Purchasing/ Manufacturing/Suppliers/Quality) with the review and release of new product and packaging for new programs being developed and launched. As the Sustaining Supervisor, I made it critical in increasing the company’s bottom line by always having programs of cost reductions/cost improvements/commonization of product and packaging as a yearly goal which affected my yearly personal merit increase. I established a matrix chart of all product and dunnage in house (not in existence prior to my efforts within engineering) cataloging all cardboard, bubblewrap, antistatic wrap, etc., based on size of box, type of wall (single or double), flute types, burst load, side angle supports, etc. in establishing a baseline to commence the commonization efforts. This resulted in over $100,000 yearly cost savings to the company, and reduced the complexity of dunnage offerings and streamlined our efforts in transferring the dunnage business from one supplier to the next. The supplier transfer itself was a project I managed, and delivered on time and cost to the company. After 25 years in the business, I decided to follow my passion of teaching, and left the Manufacturing Industry to pursue the education field. I completed the alternative certification program August 2014, and immediately took Math 4-8 and Math 7-12 content exams (which I passed) to commence my area of focus in mathematics. I eventually took the Generalist 4-8 and passed that, which expanded my areas of subject concentration to all subjects taught in the 4rth through 8th grade levels---Science, social studies, english (reading/grammar), music, fine arts, Physical Education (PE), and of course math. I also taught at the local community college an engineering course in the use of 3D CAD software for about 3 years, in addition to my stint as a Teacher's Assistant and Research Assistant while in graduate school at the University of Texas at El Paso Mechanical Engineering department. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions, or wish to speak with me prior to enlisting my services as your tutor. There is no charge for this type of call or preview. Many thanks, and Good Luck in your studies! Eduardo Ornelas,
