Experience Summary
I have taught a large array of children and adults, anywhere from a 2nd grader struggling with reading to adult Burmese refugees. I have the patience and flexibility to successfully work with anyone. I started tutoring when I was around the age of 13. I taught a young Korean girl English, where I would have to create my own lesson plans. While I attended Okemos high school, I partook in volunteering experiences that dealt with tutoring. For two years, I was placed at an elementary school where I would tutor 1st-5th graders biweekly with anything from basic math to practice with reading. I built strong connections with the children, which I could use to better their learning. At Michigan State University, I spent a semester tutoring at the Boys and Girls club of Lansing. I helped in any kind of homework the children had, and was flexible in helping the supervisor with any other needs that she had to help run the classroom. I also helped in the art room, where I could help the kids with their art projects. For one of my classes at MSU, I had to assess the reading skills of a child at a Lansing school. There, I interactively read with her, created fun lesson plans to learn things effectively, and assessed her reading, writing, and listening skills. At the Refugee Development Center, I helped tutor students from ages 20 to 50. The refugees came from places like Sudan, Burma, Iran, etc. I helped them with their book work, and typically took the lessons farther than what was expected of them to learn. In Thailand, where I studied abroad for a semester, I tutored students at a military base. There, I created lesson plans weekly to teach to a variety of skill levels. I adapted to their specific needs and met them.
Teaching Style
I can teach in any style that suits the student. I am flexible with whatever excels the students learning the most.
My Hobbies
I love to be on the move, which consists of traveling and exploring. I enjoy photography, painting, and reading among many other things.
