Experience Summary
I hold a bachelor's degree in English writing and possess extensive teaching experience as I have taught every summer since I was an undergraduate. Most recently, I instructed creative writing with the Western Pennsylvania Writing Project through the Young Writers Institute where I taught creative writing workshops at the Cathedral of Learning to middle school students. I have also taught art and writing classes through the Community Arts Center of Cambria County and the Greater Johnstown school district for after-school and summer-school programming. I have been working as a private writing tutor for about two years and primarily teach essay writing, creative writing and reading comprehension.
As an instructor of writing, my primary goal is to motivate students to uncover the benefits and the value of the practice. I believe that every student is able to be inspired by the act of writing and literature. As with most skills, practicing is a large component in helping students achieve comfort when writing and sharing what they've wrote. I believe that the habit of writing, whether it be fiction or nonfiction, is highly beneficial to constructing a sense of self and confidence.
