Experience Summary
I have 4 years of elementary library aide experience, a small one on one group to help them to excel in reading, pinpointing areas of weakness and strengths, helping young readers succeed in comprehensive reading. I worked closely with our reading experts to test and evaluate the readers to mainstream them back into the classrooms of regular readers and instill the love of reading.
Teaching Style
Repetitive reading that helps recognition and pronunciation, sounding out and following along with single reading. getting the group excited about the material we use by offering props. Encouraging group participation and support. And of course stickers and promotion.
My idea is to have 5 to 10 children of close to the same age reading and practicing together, asking questions about the subject and imaging themselves in the stories they are reading. I like to have a prop from the stories and offer it to the reader as the others track and read along.
My Hobbies
I love to read, sew, crochet and recently taught myself to knit off the internet. I like to repurpose all kinds of different things. I have also taken up gardening and canning in the last couple of years.
Other Comments
I mostly want children to love the fact that their own imaginations are there to take them anywhere they'd like to go. Reading is part of it and should be used as such. Personally, I feel the public school system has forgotten about that part of the brain and it should be recognized, parents are the only ones who can provide that for them.
