Experience Summary
I spent over 20 years as a graphic designer for various colleges and universities. In that time I used my office as an educational opportunity for my student assistants, but I always had the desire to teach. In 2011 I returned to school for my Teacher Certification in English Language Arts and Reading grades 8-12. I have since then taught English I, II, III and IV, Recovery Reading for 9th and 10th graders, as well as Art and Yearbook. My experience has taught me that every child has a tremendous capacity to learn and excel, but not all know how to unlock that capacity. My job is to find the unique key that will help each child reach his or her potential.
Teaching Style
My style of teaching is real-world understanding and application firmly based on theory. In other words, I teach how to accomplish each element, but why it is important to do so. In my instruction, I establish goals and create achievable steps for the student to follow in order to achieve those goals.
My Hobbies
I read at least once a day, as I have for most of my life. I am a creative writer of short stories and poems, maker of science-fictional devices, Golf Coach, and enjoy playing and learning with my children every chance I get.
