Experience Summary

I worked as an Undergraduate Instructional Apprentice (UGIA)/Tutor at UCSD for the courses of Nutrition and AIDS, Science, and Society. In my role as a UGIA/Tutor, I was responsible for leading a weekly (sometimes biweekly) discussion section with a group of students in which I reviewed course material that was taught by the professor in their respective courses as well as providing worksheets and writing quizzes to help the students learn the material covered in lecture. In addition to these discussion sections, I also held weekly office hours to assist students in regards to answering any questions they may have had about course material as well as run review sessions along with other UGIAs/Tutors to help prepare students prior to their exams.

Teaching Style

First, I begin by answering any questions a student has about the material they are learning. Once all questions are answered, I usually like to engage students in active learning by providing a worksheet for them in order to test where a students strengths/weaknesses are in regards to particular subject. Lastly, I usually finish off with review of important concepts about the material (especially concepts that students have the most difficulty with) in hopes to clarify the concepts/ideas of the subject.

My Hobbies

Watching TV shows such as Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead, playing the guitar, taking care of my pug, running/hiking, reading science fiction/fantasy books

My major is in General Biology, and therefore, I have taken many course relating to biology including general biology, microbiology, physiology, nutrition, genetics, molecular biology, immunology, and even some specialty courses such as endocrinology and an HIV/AIDS course. I served as a teaching assistant/tutor for nutrition and an HIV/AIDS course as an undergraduate student.
