Experience Summary
I graduated from Kutztown College in Pennsylvania in 2011 and went out into the world to gain some real world experience. I worked for the past four years an investigative journalist for newspapers. I started with a small weekly newspaper with a circulation of about 6,500 and transitioned to one of the largest daily newspapers in the northeast Pennsylvania area with a circulation of 30,000. I wrote stories about educational reforms, school districts, political controversies, outdoors, animals, hunting/fishing and sport events. I also was employed as a photographer and had many front page and feature photos recognized throughout my journalism career. I recently moved to Denver because I was hired as a preschool teacher and I look forward to bringing my real world experience into the classroom and tutoring environments.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is unique in that it focuses completely on the student I am working with. I cultivate and sculpt lesson and tutoring plans/programs to not only work with that student's stregthens but also develop areas that need improvement. My lessons are generally focused around connecting the material with current pop culture events or influences. Whether it's connecting feminism with Beyonce's music or pointing out the influences between Orwell's "1984" and today's cellphones and internet, you will find my lessons are a unique way to experience the material.
My Hobbies
My hobbies include photography (I love working with animals or sporting events to get really great, one-of-a-kind shots), writing (both creatively and informative), music (I am an avid Bruce Springsteen fan) and reading (I read a vast amount of books in a year).
Other Comments
If you chose me as a tutor you are selecting somoneone who help you set realistic goals, make every possible effort to help you be successful and motivate you to continue setting higher goals. In my opinion there is no such thing as being lucky and getting a good grade. With my tutoring approach we will create our own luck through hard work and when that hard work meets opportunity then you will earn a good grade and luck won't be a factor.
