Experience Summary
I have worked with companies whose major focus was to increase math and science scores. I have found visual aids are an effective way to teach math and other subjects. Because my educational background is mathematically and science based, most of my tutoring experiences are in the subjects of math and science. However, I do have experience tutoring students in all subjects.
In addition to this, I have over 2 years of experience in teaching GED level classes. I have worked with adults of all ages and have helped students obtain their GED. My experience as an instructor was with Wiregrass Technical College (formerly Valdosta Technical College). During my tenure I was able to help 5 of 12 students obtain their GED and/or pass 3 out of 5 subject areas. I provided group and individual tutoring and found both instruction methods rewarding.
Teaching Style
I have previously worked for an in-home tutoring service where I helped students improve their grades in various subject areas that presented difficulty. The students I have tutored in the past were either in middle or high school. I also have experience as a GED instructor, and one of the best feelings in the world is helping someone receive their GED. I have worked with students that were not as enthusiastic to see me as I was to tutor or teach. Sometimes the students were not very motivated, but our goal was to increase productivity and grades. In addition, I would turn grammar lessons and math lessons into games. Not only did the students benefit from this uncanny method of tutoring but so did I. I love to teach and help others. I am very creative and I have found relating a problem to something students like to do is the best way to teach. I have seen the challenges students of all ages face and have worked to help build their confidence and academic abilities. I feel the best way to help others in the community is to give back a little of what you have learned throughout the years to those who are aspire to accomplish great things.
