About Me

Experience Summary

Hello Parents and Students, Thanks for your interest! I am Quynh (pronounced like “Queen”), and I am Deaf! American Sign Language (ASL) is my native language. I attended Kendall School for the Deaf and Model Secondary School for the deaf on Gallaudet University campus in Washington, DC. I also attended Gallaudet University, which is famous for first and only Deaf University in the whole world, for a few years. I taught my husband ASL. I'm currently teaching my two small children ASL. I am currently a Social Worker at JMH Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing, and I am also an adjunct professor at Barry University. In addition to these jobs, I also love working one-on-one or in small groups to help students master whatever they are studying. If interested, you can contact me via email: aslmiami@icloud.com I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management Information Systems and Information Technology, as well as a Master of Arts in Social Work. Both degrees are from Florida International University (go Panthers!). I have been working as a Social Worker for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing for almost ten years. In that role, I provide support and advocacy for my clients as they interact with different agencies and offices such as medical clinics and hospitals, courts, social security offices, and the Department of Children and Families. I help my clients find resources if they do not know where to look or how to access specific information. I also educate my clients on a variety of topics such as sign language to improve communication skills/ interpersonal skills, budgeting and time management skills, understanding their medical diagnoses and monitoring medication compliance, parenting and relational skills, and driver’s education. In my role as Adjunct Professor at Barry University, I teach American Sign Language courses and provide support and guidance for my students there. Currently, I am working toward earning my American Sign Language Teacher Association (ASLTA) certificate as well as credentials as a Certified Deaf Interpreter. If interested, you can contact me via email: aslmiami@icloud.com

Teaching Style

I provide a variety of tutoring and educational services. FOR NON PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, DCF does not required a certified deaf interpreter/teacher in order to teach individual/family sign language. If you are an ASL student who needs some extra help, or you have a Deaf school-age child who might benefit from one-on-one tutoring, I can help! If you are a club or organization and you want a fun workshop or seminar, I can help! And if your family needs to learn sign all together, I can help with that too! I am flexible and creative, and am delighted to work with you. If interested, you can contact me via email: aslmiami@icloud.com
