About Me

Experience Summary

Robert Roach is a Los Angeles based illustrator, comic artist, writer & publisher. He’s also the winner of the first ever Glyph Awards for excellence in independent publishing. The Glyph Awards recognize the best in comics made by, for, and about people of color from the preceding calendar year. Renowned comic book writer & critic, Tony Isabella, said of Robert's winning project, "Roach's writing knocks me out. In the third issue, The Roach (name of the mini-series & its anti-hero protagonist) & his rescuer, an ex-soldier who served in Europe World War I & who returned to the U.S. because his family needed him, have a two-page conversation on race, justice, power, and economics that opens The Roach to new insights. The soldier's sense of duty brought him back to Chicago from the relatively color-blind Paris, but, when he tells The Roach he has "no idea how it feels--for the first time--to be treated like a whole man," it brings home the sacrifice the soldier has made. The respect each of these men so obviously has for one another is inspiring." Additionally, Mike Hamersky (San Diego Comic-Con's inaugural recipient of their "Blogger of the Year" award) acclaimed "The Roach" as 2009's best mini-series throughout all of comics. Artistically, his standard professional work is executed manually & digitally (PhotoShop, Illustrator, experience with Bamboo). Teaching Style

I like to figure out what a student really wants to know & why he/she has this desire. Then, I like to know how best they learn. We all take in information differently. For example, it's easy for me to retain info related to social studies, history, artwork & details about writing a good narrative. This IS NOT true for me when dealing with science subjects. So, when I endeavored to get the BEST grade that I could when taking a requisite science course in college, I had to spend 3Xs as much effort in my studies. (I got an 89%.) This reminded me that I can do my best & get good results. It also reminded wherein my intellectual strengths lie.

My Hobbies

Many of my working interests are also my hobby interests. Add music to them.
