Experience Summary
I am one of those very fortunate people that always knew what they wanted to be when they grew up. Ever since I was a small child I have wanted to teach, and every time I work with a struggling student my dream is realized.
I am a certified elementary school teacher, who has enjoyed teaching, helping, and motivating elementary school students for the past 10 years. I have taught and worked with grades 1st- 5th in both traditional and charter school environments. I teach all academic core subjects including reading, writing, grammar, math, social studies and science. I have worked with a variety of students including special needs and English language learners. I currently work at an integrated arts charter school where I integrate visual arts, dance, music, and theater into the core curriculum. I currently write my own arts integrated curriculum for 2nd grade based off the California common core standards.
I also enjoy implementing total physical response (TPR) approaches to learning. In many traditional school settings children are made to sit in their seats and complete rote tasks. This approach is unsuccessful for many school aged children especially those struggling with attention deficit issues. Children need to get up, move around, and actively engage in the material, whether that be playing a game or creating a work of art. I strive to create meaningful, engaging, and fun activities that appeal to a child’s interests and help them develop a love of learning. I have been tutoring students for the past eight years in reading, writing and math and have seen remarkable results. My passion is creating individualized lessons for struggling students.
I believe that all children can learn and feel successful, it just takes knowing the child and developing the right approach to appeal to their learning style. That is what I do best!
