I am a first generation Italian-American on my mother's side. Most of her family is in Italy, and we have always maintained a close connection. As such, I have been to Italy many times, not only on the tourist path, but off that beaten path: in my relatives' dining rooms, at their weddings and funerals, working in their fields harvesting grapes, etc. In college, I majored in Italian, even spending a semester in Rome.
I tailor my teaching style to the student's needs. I can teach in the conventional, textbook format. I can teach in a less formal manner, I can prepare someone heading to Italy who needs a crash course in "street" Italian, and prepare one's expectations. I like it to be an interactive process, with a lot of verbal repetition on the student's part. |
