Experience Summary
I have been working with special needs students with various disabilities for 10 years. I have worked with students ranging from ADHD/ADD to those who are bed ridded and need toileting assistance. I have also had to accommodate with feeding and those who are transitioning out of high school. I can teach students how to read and write and how to ride the city but to where they need to go and make it back home. I have also taught cooking and hygiene skills.
Teaching Style
I am patient, go at the students level, and believe in the use various types of visual aids and hands on to keep my students engaged. Students learn and retain information quicker with continual repetition; however each student will grasp the information different from another and some will take more repetition than others.
My Hobbies
I love coaching fast pitch, basketball, volleyball, soccer, and track. I play co-ed softball but am not right now. I love all outside activities especially if it is on the water. I enjoy yard work, house cleaning, and painting rooms in my house; they relax me. I love spending time with family and going different places. I love my church and getting involved with volunteering or whatever is needed. I love watching movies. I love working with children and watching them excel either through teaching or coaching.
Other Comments
Every child can learn with the "right person" leading and teaching them. Every child responds to a teaching style in a different way. It does not mean that one teacher is better than the other but to a child it can make a huge difference.
